GMTK game jam | Devlog and Results!

Hello!

I'm writing this devlog to announce that I was making a new video devlog of how I made my GMTK 2021 entry for this year.

On some other news, the results for the GMTK game jam were just announced yesterday! And I'm very pleased to say that I did significantly better in this jam versus last year results. When I went into this jam, improvement from last year was the main goal I had in mind.

For comparison here were the results from my game last year (AntiDon't)

  Evaluated from 53 ratings

Fun#1998Top 37%
Originality#1042Top 20%
Presentation#611Top 12%
OVERALL#1361Top 26%

And here are the results for this year (Eris' Scissors)

  Evaluated from 50 ratings

Fun#1461Top 25%
Originality #250Top 4%
Presentation #219Top 3%
OVERALL#411Top 7%

My OVERALL placement jumped by almost 1000 ranks (which is the largest improvement across the year)! The largest improvement in an individual category was in Originality. And in terms of feedback, it looks like Fun is something I need to work on!

1 day before the jam started, I contemplated whether I should even do it again. I don't usually do such quick jams and was worried that I would be stressed, crunched and wouldn't get much sleep. However, I ensured that in this jam I would take breaks and sleep properly.

Thanks to this commitment, it resulted in one of the most relaxed jam experiences I've had! I would encourage people to join game jams but remember to take care of yourself if you do.

To everyone who submitted something for the jam that's a large achievement in of itself! When I started making games, I could never imagine making something playable and working in only 2 days. So congratulations to everyone who submitted and I hope to see you next year :)
