X to advance dialogue/create lines of strife

You can play the game without reading the Rules, but it's here in case you get stuck :)

- UI -

Your Power is shown in the box to the LEFT.

The Total Love in the level is shown in the MIDDLE.

A timer is shown on the RIGHT (every second your scissors refresh from cooldown. every second "moving" lovers take one step.)

- RULES -

OBJECTIVE: Reduce the Total Love in a level to 0.

• Use MOUSE to cut red threads of fate
• Each thread cut reduces the total love by 1.
• Each thread cut costs 1 Power

GAME OVER: If the timer (for that level) runs out OR if your Power is reduced to 0.

• If two soulmates* "bump" into each other, it's instantly game over. So cut their string before they get to each other!
• If two people "bump" into each other, then they'll "fall in love" and form a new red thread of fate (overriding who they were previously in love with).

*soulmates are people who have a string connecting them to each other (person A connects to person B and person B connects to person A).

WALLS ARE OBSTACLES

• If a thread intersects with a wall you cannot cut it!
• Use MOUSE to break down walls (so you can cut the thread)
• Each wall has 2HP meaning it costs 2 Power to break one wall down
• People cannot pass through walls (unless they're ghosts)

LINE OF STRIFE MAKES PEOPLE LOVELESS

To form a line of strife do the following:

1. Hover your mouse over person 1 and press X at the same time.
2. Hover your mouse over person 2 and press X at the same time.
3. There will now be a line of strife between them.

• If you have two loveless people (red and sad), you can make a line of strife between them. If anyone moves into the line of strife they'll become loveless and have their love reduced to 0.
• There are some people who have "self-love" (thus even if there are no red strings, the Total Love in a level may still be greater than 0)
• You can destroy people with "self-love" by using lines of strife.

After all this time, you mustered the courage to ask them out and they... rejected you. Your friends tell you to move on, your parents tell you it's better this way, but right now, you just want to watch the world burn.

Long ago you managed to get your hands on Eris' Scissors, a powerful relic capable of breaking the red strings of fate which binds lovers together. With this in hand, nobody will ever love again. Perfect!

This game was made during 48 hours for the GMTK Game Jam 2021 using the theme "Joined Together". The theme is incorporated as it's your objective to break apart lovers who are "Joined Together". Additionally, you can "join together" loveless people to create lines of strife which spreads hate across the level!
