Happy New Year! - FFT Update 1.1
Hello and Happy New Year!
First of all I hope that everyone is ready and excited for the new year. I know that 2020 hasn't been...kind to anyone [insert 2020 joke here] but at least now we can look forward to what 2021 holds for all of us.
As for Flowers for Time, with a new year comes new updates! I would've done this sooner but Christmas and New Year celebrations had to put this temporarily on hold!
Updates
One of the most requested changes was for there to be a timer. Now (next to the health bar) you can see a timer that tracks your "steps" versus the number of steps left before you die.
Check it out in the gif below!
So you can see that for this floor, the maximum amount of steps/step limit is 196 before you die (the step limit increase as you go to more difficult levels).
Secondly, when you've reached your maximum capacity for water (when you have 6 units) a different sound effect plays to indicate that you're full of water.
And last of all, in a (late) "Christmas spirit" I decided to implement a red color palette mode that can now be accessed from the menu.
*the new red palette mode doesn't change any gameplay whatsoever, I thought it would be fun to mimic gameboy color schemes :)
Here is some footage of the new red color palette mode:
What's next?
If this update seems a bit small that's because I've been working on another project in pico8! It's still in the very early process of design so I can't say much, but that's been the main focus of my time.
I do have some small tweaks I want to implement for Flowers for Time but of all my games, I think I'm the happiest with this one in terms of performance and polish. Essentially, I don't feel the need to change much of it because I'm happy with how it is :)
Thank you so much for playing Flowers for Time and I hope you all have a wonderful new year! ^^
