FFT: Indiepocalypse, Deluxe and supporting game devs
Hi all! There has been a lot of incredibly exciting news not just relating to Flowers for Time but also me as a game dev overall.
I'll start with the news that'll probably be the most relevant.
Indiepocalypse
I was very lucky to have been contacted by PIZZAPRANKS who asked me to submit "Flowers for Time" for indiepocalypse #15!
The twist is that in indiepocalyse #15, there is an exclusive version of Flowers for Time! The indiepocalypse version contains the following new content:
- Artist Mode (comes with new special ability and weapons)
- New Gameboy Colour palette
- A completely different playable "story"
- Updated/new SFX

I would highly recommend checking out the zine as it supports multiple small indie game devs. The issue costs $15 which is essentially $1.50 per game!
Deluxe version
However, I understand that $15 may be costly for some people. Which is why I've decided to introduce the Deluxe Version of Flowers for Time!
The Deluxe version contains EVERYTHING in the indiepocalypse version plus:
- a speedrun mode
- a highscore tracker for the player
- and more!
This Deluxe version costs $1.00. I didn't want to make the "indiepocalypse" version free because it could, unfortunately, discourage people from buying indiepocalypse if my version was free.
The message of the indiepocalypse zine (one that I greatly admire) is about creating a culture where small, independent developers can strive, share their work and be supported. This originated from the term "indiepocalypse" back in 2014 where it was discussed that due to the democratization of the tools to make games (or because making games is more accessible than ever), it leads to an oversaturation in the market.
The original Flowers for Time will always be for free and playable because I want to share my work and not put it behind a paywall. On the other hand, I do want to support initiatives such as the indiepocalypse zine and realize that there's value in all the work the game devs on this site do. I'd recommend looking at npckc's zine free games and why we should pay for them to get a better insight.
On other news
I do plan to talk more about indiepocalypse (I still have to post a devlog on Minimalist Mastery because that's included in the zine too!), but the reason I was so occupied was because of this visual novel I've spent the entirety of March making for NaNoReNo:
A Monster's Insight is a project that I'm extremely proud of and delighted to share.
You can have a look as to what the game's about by clicking this link!
So March has been a very eventful month, as I was making the Flowers for Time Deluxe/Indiepocalypse versions and developing this visual novel. But I couldn't be happier with the results :)
